Setting Up Your System

Set up your QSR Drum Synthesizer hardware.

Before you begin

After determining your drum synthesizer configuration and obtaining the required hardware, you can begin to assemble and test your system. The QSR can support many different system configurations. Base your configuration on your personal needs.

  • Review the Background Info section of the QSR Drum Synthesizer Manual.
  • Research hardware options and select your system components.
  • Purchase your pads, triggers, controllers, cables, stands, and MIDI accessories.

About this task

This topic covers the general procedure for setting up your drum synthesizer. Depending on the hardware you purchased, the setup details may differ. This Manual does not replace the documentation from the hardware manufacturer. It supplements the manufacturers' documentation.

Procedure

Assembling the Hardware

  1. Inventory your hardware and ensure that you have everything you need.
  2. Assemble your stands and mount your pads and controller.
  3. If using triggers mounted on acoustic drums, mount them as well.
  4. Connect trigger cables between pads, triggers, and your trigger interface or controller.
  5. Before making MIDI connections, review the system bootstrapping steps below, then continue to the Software Installation topic.

Bootstrapping Your System

  1. Review the phased testing approach below. Instead of making all MIDI connections now, use this phased approach to simplify troubleshooting.
    Testing Phases:
    1. Install and test software applications, including communication between the QSR and your computer.
    2. Configure and test the QSR's Global Settings using QS Edit Pro software.
    3. Connect your pad controller (preferred) or trigger interface and test communication with the QSR.
    4. Test additional MIDI connections (from a trigger interface, for example).
